Life in Mauritius! (visits and experience)

 Life in Mauritius

Is Mauritius somewhere you have been planning to go to or have you yet to get the chance to go? Is it a place you dream of visiting? Is it part of your travel list? If not, then you're missing out. If yes, I have a little travel plan and some foresight experience waiting for you!

Many people know me, but one thing they need to know is that I live in Mauritius. Just in case you need to know where Mauritius is, I will be happy to be your tour guide from wherever you are right now. Mauritius is a beautiful island in the Indian Ocean. Imagine clear blue waters touching soft, white sands, with colorful coral reefs full of life. The island’s heart is in its lively markets, where you can smell spices and hear the happy voices of friendly people. Tall green mountains rise in the distance, offering amazing views. Every evening, the sunset turns the sky into pink and gold. Mauritius is a place where nature’s beauty and the kindness of its people create memories that stay with you forever. Imagine this: a place of peace, serenity, and nature. Mauritius is truly a sign that God exists because of its beauty. So, is it part of your travel list?

As your tour guide, it only makes sense to introduce myself. My name is Daniel Dzarma, and I am a Nigerian currently based in Mauritius. I am a content creator and a fashion influencer (check out my Instagram and YouTube channel). Today, I will be giving you my top 5 places to visit in Mauritius and sharing my experiences as well. Please be kind and share this blog with someone who would be interested, and drop a comment if you have any questions or anything to say. Ale vid vid!

1) Chamarel Waterfall

Chamarel in Mauritius is a place of stunning natural beauty. Imagine the vibrant Seven Colored Earths, where sands of different hues create a magical landscape. Nearby, the Chamarel Waterfall cascades gracefully from nearly 100 meters, surrounded by lush green forests. The area’s serene waterfront offers a perfect blend of ocean and verdant scenery. With its captivating landscapes and tranquil charm, Chamarel is a true gem in the heart of Mauritius. Personally, what made this place a gem for me is the serenity; it’s quiet and peaceful, and the sound of the waterfall is just heavenly. Chamarel also has other places to visit, like the Seven Colored Earths, but what blew my mind was the waterfall. The exciting part is that there’s a lower one and a higher one, making it two beautiful waterfalls that are linked. God creates wonders!

2) Le Pouce

Le Pouce in Mauritius is a stunning peak that offers a memorable hiking experience. Standing at 812 meters, it is the third-highest mountain on the island, named for its distinctive thumb-like shape. The hike to the summit takes about 2-3 hours and features lush greenery and diverse wildlife. The final ascent is a bit challenging, but the panoramic views of Port Louis and the surrounding countryside make it all worthwhile. Le Pouce is a must-visit for anyone seeking adventure and breathtaking scenery in Mauritius.

As mentioned earlier, my favorite part of Le Pouce is the view at the top. It is breathtaking and indeed makes you feel like you are touching heaven. The clouds, the mountains, and the city view are just something out of this world. I am also grateful for the hiking experience; it was fun and interesting. It is an activity that you must do if you come to Mauritius.

3) Maconde Point

Maconde Point in Mauritius is a breathtaking lookout nestled along the island's southern coast. This dramatic cliffside offers stunning panoramic views of the turquoise Indian Ocean meeting the rugged coastline. As you stand atop Maconde, the wind gently rustles through your hair, and the endless horizon fills you with awe. The unique rock formation, shaped like a ship’s bow, adds to the mystique and allure of this enchanting spot. With its spectacular vistas and serene atmosphere, Maconde Point is a must-visit gem that captures the wild beauty of Mauritius.

This place is something else, and you need to see it for yourself. It is a hill between a curvy road and a large body of water—amazing. But the best thing about this spot is the meaning behind it. This was where slaves used to hide from their colonizers back in the day, but now it is just a tourist attraction for the view.

4) Bois Cheri Tea Factory and Tea Museum

Nestled in the lush hills of southern Mauritius, Bois Cheri Tea Factory and Tea Museum offers a delightful journey through the island's rich tea heritage. Established in 1892, it is the oldest and largest tea plantation in Mauritius.

Visitors can explore the tea-making process from leaf to cup on a fascinating factory tour, followed by a visit to the Tea Museum, which showcases antique equipment and the history of tea on the island. The experience culminates at the tea house, where guests can sample a variety of exquisite teas while enjoying stunning views of the plantation and the serene Bois Cheri Lake.

Bois Cheri is a cultural gem that blends history, nature, and the art of tea, making it a must-visit destination in Mauritius.

5) Saint Felix Beach

Located on the southern coast of Mauritius, Saint Felix Beach is a hidden gem known for its pristine beauty and tranquil atmosphere. This idyllic beach boasts powdery white sand, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and lush greenery, making it a perfect spot for relaxation and picturesque views.

The gentle waves and calm waters are ideal for swimming, while the scenic surroundings offer plenty of opportunities for leisurely strolls and picnics. The beach’s relatively secluded location means it is often less crowded, providing a peaceful escape from the busier tourist spots.

Saint Felix Beach is a serene haven that captures the essence of Mauritius’s natural beauty, making it a must-visit for those seeking a quiet and picturesque coastal retreat. Something that stood out to me at this location is the calmness of the waves and the peaceful environment, if you ever need time just for yourself; Saint Felix Beach is a go-to!

However, even though there are so many beautiful places in Mauritius, some of which I haven't seen myself, I would say the best experience in Mauritius is the road trip. It is the definition of peaceful; the views are beautiful and serene. Even though Mauritius has its own problems, I would still encourage you to visit!
